Variation (Pas Seul)

The music plays softly, the fire burns bright,
Alone once again, I must dance on this night.
In vain I sigh, for I miss you so much,
The love in your voice, and the warmth of your touch.
I cling to the feelings as though you were here.
I tell you I love you as though you might hear.
My eyes will not open, this mem’ry to keep.
The moment too precious, the yearning too deep.
Aching to feel your embrace just once more,
To melt in your arms as we glide ‘cross the floor,
You, holding me tightly, your eyes meeting mine,
And moving me slowly, our passion in rhyme.
Your hands ‘round my body, your breath on my face.
The scent of your essence, as love fills this space.
I wake from these visions that once I have known,
But now to love’s music, I must dance alone.
Let the music continue for fear of the pain.
That in dreams I might hold you, the joy to regain.
For without you I know, love for me, there’s no chance.
So each night in my darkness alone I must dance.
('Variation' or 'Pas seul' is the dance term for a solo dance.)
