Does This Have To Be

Mid the wreckage of tomorrow
Gone... All the hopes we had today
There they lay in bits and pieces
Like rare gemstones thrown away

Politicians at the table
Hold their meetings... choose their camps
But when all the talking over
It’s so sad… nobody danced.

One man said “I have been dreaming
That all men are equals… free
Someone said “That’s so deceptive
We simply cannot let that be”

Then one said “Don’t ask of country
Let your country ask of you”
No one listened…paid attention
Profits first... the favored view”

Still someone said “…Try conservation
Till some voice cried that’s insane
We must sacrifice our assets
If our pockets would see gain

Someone wise said” Prayers the answer
Atheists screamed not in our schools
If we let God in the classroom
Kids might learn the golden rule

Teach … each man must find his own place
Dog eat dog …it’s the game to play
Each man tries to best the others
Squirreling all his cash away

Teach kids history…teach them science
Show them that old money game
Let technology run rampant
Blow the world up...go insane

Alas... Man can not work in tandem
Forgo profits... how inane
Find agreements between nations
Better all should share the pain

Through the wreckage of tomorrow
Walks a small child all alone
Lost amid the devastation”
Have we left him this for home?

Sad discolored twisted wreckage
Nuclear sunsets… black despair
Bits and pieces… scattered rainbows
Statements caused by “ I don’t care”

Is this then the abysmal future?
Bitter price.. should our children pay?
Can’t we all sit down with wisdom
Solve the problems.. Start today!

Is that such a novel concept
Have we things in common still ?
I know we can find the answer
Someday...somehow we will
