The curlew cries at end of passing day
as the moon takes possession of the sky.
Nocturnal minions seek out moonlit prey,
hunting scenes, reflected in an owl’s eye.
Natural selection is not pretty
as the ground fog invades the forest plain.
Night can be gorgeous and yet gritty,
katydid chorus sings a blue refrain.
