She still remembers.. a little girl
Being held in daddy's arms
She remembers how she felt so safe
So protected from all harms
But time.. it is a clever thief
So it stole his youth away
So nowadays she finds him
Looking for those yesterdays
As the fiddler plays her favorite dance
Daddy's dance steps are all wrong
So she watches and her poor heart breaks
With each new empty dawn
One day soon he'll dance with angels
Now they sing around each bend
So each night she prays for one more chance
At one last dance with him
Just one waltz where they'll be happy
Knowing every thing is right
Where she won't ask God the question
Will This be his last night?
Dear God she prays.. just one more chance
To feel his loving kiss
Know the comfort of his big strong arms
That all too soon she'll miss
For those angel songs grow stronger now
And tonight they'll sing again
Dear God she loves her daddy so
Don't let this be the end
Her tender heart will break in two
If the dancing days are done
Lost the magic in the music
And her golden rays of sun
For she would give her tomorrows up
For a road with a few more bends
Where she can savor one more chance
To dance with dad again
Authors Note:
This poem is dedicated to the daughter
Of my heart our Tiny Teddy
Who can do nothing but sit and watch
As her daddy slowly loses his battle with
Alzheimer's disease
