Sips of Life

Sips of Life

When days have slipped
to winter and the time
for beginnings have passed,
regrets will neither plague
me or mock my days with
uncertainty and doubt...

I will know that each day
was spent rejoicing the
sweet breath of dawn
and never did I forget to sip
of starry skies and drink
the mornings' dew, touch
adventures' moon and cavort
beneath summers' sun.

Nor will there be an unturned
page left within my dream book
for I have colored each with
the brilliance of my imaginings.
I have tried to remember that life
is but a metaphor or an impossibility
of circumstance...and that time
will claim it as its own.

So when I bid farewell
to all that I have been
I will do so with a nod
of silent thanks and a wink
in hopes that all will be forgiven
...and a prayer that somewhere
I have left behind a smile
and a few sips of life
to quench another's thirst.
