My Thanksgiving List

Five Thanksgivings ago,
The joy of the Holiday was gone.
His chair sat empty, his plate untouched.
What purpose did I have to go on.
Then when I saw the faces of my family
Gathered at the table, hands folded in prayer.
The pain in my heart lessened, God whispered,
There will never be an empty chair,
His spirit is there.

And so, This is my Thanksgiving list.
For anyone who has felt that emptiness.
May God whisper comforting words.
Our loved ones are safe in Heaven.
I pray there will be peace, a world united.
A hot meal and a cozy bed for everyone.
No more abuse and neglect.
No more gangs and violence.
This is America, our home.

Lord you know my heart.
You hear my prayer.
Thank you for letting his spirit
Fill that empty chair.
For my grandson Jeremy
Sending love to Heaven from me.
