i'm there again

'layla' by marcia davis

first the wind tosses colored rose petals
through the rain soaked air
then its fingers lock tightly
round the waist of a palm tree
daring it to do the tango
on this Thursday afternoon
the wind blows through the gates of time
like a silk scarf tickling my soul
i hear the music of once upon a time
mellifluous and honeyed
i cling fiercely to each note
as cloistered memories come out of hiding
their unexpected sweetness
washes over me
and i’m there again
picking up colored rose petals
to bring them home to you
