Pay The Piper

All life, it seems, is aimed at self-improvement,
human endeavours, focussed on what's next,
virtues on the line, judged by each movement,
increase the piper's pay lest he be vexed.
And , guided by one's knowledge of behaviour,
strengthen those ties which bind a family firm;
themselves follow religion of some flavour
by any means...but then, there turns the worm!
The aim of some to emulate the maker,
practice self-denial at any cost,
and should this make one more like monk than baker,
experience along the way not lost.
Of honest men, those few who faithful stand,
them we respect who live not under-hand.
