Pass The Mantle

She passed on the old mantle,
that role had so become her;
she'd mentored and she'd mothered
and she'd ministered to all.

In the shawl of sweet retirement
burdens eased down from her shoulders;
but it didn't stop her caring.
On her life there was a call.

So she stands behind that woman
to whom she'd passed the mantle;
to support and to encourage,
knowing well how she might fall.
