Trader John's Demise

Ayitah, elder daughter of Lokesh, was soon
to marry a white man named Trader John.
Even though she loved another, this she'd
feared since she was very young. To reap
the benefits being a trader's wife, this was
to become her sole mission in life. So sad
was both she and her beloved, the son of the
tribal chief. They met in the woods, consoled
each other in total disbelief. Sasa, her mother,
was aware of her dilemma but there nothing
she could do. The fact that her daughter would
no longer be with them, made her unhappy too.

The rhythm of the ceremonial drums, could be
heard from near and far. It wouldn't be long
now before she'd become the wife of a big old
burly trader czar. Because it meant so much to
her tribe, she tried to put her feelings aside. But,
deep in her heart she knew they would never be
able to subside. Her sweetheart, Gagan, ran as
far as he could to escape this tragic day. Down
in a valley he could see an army of men coming
fast approaching their way. Unbeknown to him,
they were bringing news of Trader John's sudden
demise. Because of all the excitement, he died
from a heart attack due to his size. Ayitah sent
a friend into the woods to bring Gagan back to
her. She was not going to let this ceremony go
to waste, she would be marrying him for sure.

Upon returning, he was dressed in wedding garb
and he then joined her in the center of the circle.
As the drums had now begun to play louder, they
knew they had been blessed with such a miracle.
It's been sixty years ago since their marriage. Of
that whole affair they will often talk sitting on their
front porch swing, happily back and forth they rock.
