Party Of One

Life used to be bustling.
Never a dull moment around here.
Now you can hear a pin drop.
It's gone, all that I held dear.

No more laughter from the kitchen.
The echo of my footsteps is all I hear.
I feel the rapid beating of my heart.
It's the aloneness, the loneliness I fear.

I no longer go anywhere to dine.
Eating alone isn't any fun.
And I know that I would cringe to hear
The hostess inquire, Party of one?
