I Still Remember...

How long have you been gone, my darling? 27 years?
I’m old now, and will soon turn 96… so I’m told.
I can’t seem to remember much anymore.
Alzheimers has taken so much of me.
But, I still remember when as children I fell in love with you
from the very moment I first saw you.
I still remember writing in my diary that someday I would marry you.
I still remember what a loving husband and father you were.
I still remember how I adored you, and you me,
And I anxiously await the day I will be with you again.
I have been slipping away for years,
so most things I can no longer remember,
but.. I still remember you, my love.
