Get Rid Of The Advertisements

most dangerous road

Way back
in the
thirties,
bulldozers
and dynamite
carved the road
up to Mount
Whitney Portals
where mere
mortals
must drive
their cars
upon the most
dangerous
road in America.

Serpinteen
means
a zig zag
narrow road
climbing a
rock mountain
face
with no
barriers
protecting ones
from the deep
chasms
to the plain
below
straight down,
like the view
from the window
of an airplane
as hold
the breath
and wish for
what's best
upon the climb
to the Portals
up there
with tall trees
where the
famous trail
to the top
of the continent
goes
unapposed.

Drove
carefully
around
hairpin curves,
and the wife
wouldn't look
over the edge
as if we might
plunge~~~~~
to our doom
within an
instant
of fears
insistance.

It took two
and a half
hours to
go there,
and the same
returning
to Tehachapi,
and what a
drive it 'twas
upon shimmering
highways
to and from
our mountain
home
with the hum
of wheels
just yesterday.
