Conscience

I was deep in conversation
With my conscience yesterday,
When it said something shocking,
In a simple, straight forth way.
And I quote its word verbatim
As they echo in my heart
“I am only able to relate-that
Which you knew to start.
I have not the power to legislate,
Except through your own trials
And I’ll not deny that which is so
To appease your selfish wiles.
I was given a minder
Of the things you know to be
And I’ll not be silenced or ignored,
Or blind to what I see.
You’re created in the image
Of our Savior, Christ the Son,
And you’ll answer to His Father
For the wrongs that you have done”.
And then in the terrible silence
When my conscience ceased to speak
I felt naked and so frightened…
I felt small and shy and meek.
And I pondered, what it told me,
And I grasped the truth therein.
For a conscience is the guardian,
Of the soul- God gave to men..
