Our Baby Buck

Several months ago lying along the roadside,
There was an animal that looked like a dog sleeping in the road.
Upon closer inspection I found it to be a baby deer,
He was unable to stand, lying scared and wounded.
While crossing the street with his mother,
This baby buck he was hit by a car,
The passing car left him with a broken leg,
A broken leg, a concussion, and some contusions.

My neighbor had his family home for a visit,
His parents, two daughters and son came.
Tiffany his eldest daughter,
She went to school to become a veterinarian.
She came with her father and grandmother and I,
To check on the Baby Buck to see what we could do to help it.
The Baby Buck was wary of us,
He did let Tiffany pick him up and carry him to the car.

For a time he was just given water and,
We allowed him to rest while we contacted a real vet.
The Baby Buck was brought to an animal sanctuary,
Where it healed and was released back into the wild.
