Patchwork Quilt
I cut the squares from fabric
From the clothes the kids outgrew
For years I simply saved it-
With a plan of what I’d do
.
Then finally when the kids were grown
And winter blew back in
I sorted out the pieces
So my project could begin
.
I held a piece, was once a shirt,
That Johnny loved to wear
And then a piece out of scarf
That Jane wore o'er her hair.
.
One was from the islands,
When we went so long ago
And some were from the summer clothes
Bright colors, made them glow
.
I sewed each square, each memory,
I had so carefully saved
Each memory became a part-
Each precious piece enslaved
.
Within the web, of the quilt I made
With colors bright and bold
I sewed the pieces-gave new life
To fabric worn and old
And maybe on winter’s eve
In a time beyond my own...
Someone will love this patchwork quilt...
That with memories was sewn!
