Thou Shalt Not

I've pondered on this subject
For a good measure of time,
And for the life of me,
No good excuse can I find.

If someone is truly starving
And cannot find a job,
There must be an honest way,
Rather than to enter and rob.

I think the barter system
Could be put in place.
It's much better to be trusted.
To have an honest face.

God gave us each a conscience.
To know although things look appealing,
They do not belong to us.
No, there is no reason for stealing

Mama taught me this when I was six.
Pretty school supplies were displayed .
There were yellow pencils, juicy fruit gum,
And I remember to this day.

She marched me back to the store
Contrition embedded in my heart,
To beg the lady for forgiveness
And to make a brand new start.

Stealing leads to bigger crimes.
My Mother's words I never forgot.
Webster's book says: Take without right.
God's book says: THOU SHALT NOT.

Reason for stealing.
