Another Goodbye

Another Goodbye

it was an April afternoon when we held hands,
recited the vows that would join us as husband
and wife, as one... You smiled and whispered

'forever' and I smiled back and whispered
'and a day'... how ironic those words would
be in later years, how often would I remember

them and weep... it was an April morning when
my 'forever and a day' changed, when life stilled,
when grief became my constant companion,

when I had to say goodbye and watch as you
begin your next journey... I realize now that
I do have my 'forever' as I hold you

in my heart, as I feel you in my
soul, and as I hear your whispered words
in my dreams... I wish we could have been

granted another day... but that could not be
and perhaps He does know best because
I do not believe I could have survived

...another goodbye.
