Reading My Eyes

You’ve noticed that language lives in my eyes?
Did you hear also the beat of my heart?
No more than this, my dear, did you surmise.
Have you found it quite savory or smart
to let limpid romance pools flow at will?
Did you hear also the beat of my heart?
Will you count the commandments you let spill?
Ardor and emotion have cleared the way
to let limpid romance pools flow at will.
As night is given to follow the day
performing love’s duties hidden by the dark,
ardor and emotion have cleared the way.
You remembered a gesture or remark
spoken in tongues, heard by those swept away,
performing love’s duties hidden by the dark.
My glance now pleads its case for you to stay,
you’ve noticed that language lives in my eyes.
Spoken in tongues, heard by those swept away,
no more than this, my dear, did you surmise.

Form Used: TERZANELLE
A terzanelle is a poetic form combining aspects of the villanelle and the terza rima. It is nineteen lines total, with five triplets and a concluding quatrain. The middle line of each triplet stanza is repeated as the third line of the following stanza, and the first and third lines of the initial stanza are the second and final lines of the concluding quatrain; thus, seven of the lines are repeated in the poem. The rhyme scheme and stanzaic structure are as follows (a capitalized letter indicates a line repeated verbatim):
A B A'
b C B
c D C
d E D
e F E
f A F A'
