Re-claiming Zara

Thank heaven for little girls,
but particularly for this one, God.
With the face of an angel
she almost was mistaken
and whisked off to heaven in error.
Four times before her first birthday
I had cause to resuscitate her.

Thank you, God.
On those staff development days
when everybody except me
was permitted 'hands-on'
with the mannikin
to complete the CPR component.
I still payed attention,
not realising how critical it would be.
They imagined that because of disability
I would be unable to participate.
Thank you, God that they were wrong.

Thus, the gift of life You endowed
at her conception, You empowered me,
her grandmother to re-claim.

Zara and I have a special bond,
a precious love,
a spiritual link.

My darling child, I will always love you.
