A last request
Will you not come now visit me
And stay for a little while?
To awaken again my dreams of love
On this emerald sculptured Isle.
Time has not sullied this place so serene
It is still such a wondrous sight
Where I long to hold and love you
From daybreak to evening twilight.
Here you will see the heather in bloom
And the churning Atlantic surf
Which ever still, rebukes the shore
As old men gather turf.
The scent of wild flowers fills the air
Like your essence of love for me
From my heart please hear my vow
I'll wait till death for thee.
But i f fate has decided I cannot be there
When you travel to where we once knew
I know you will find my resting place
And kneel there beneath skies of blue.
Then believe me, I will hear you
And your loveliness once again see
My spirit will always be with you
Now and eternally.
