A Single Tear

A single tear was all he saw
his finger traced it 'cross her jaw.
He knew that he had caused her pain,
their hidden love kept up the strain.
He had a plan to help things thaw.

The love they shared was real yet raw.
That she'd picked him filled him with awe.
The fear of consequences plain -
a single tear.

His insecurities still gnaw,
his fear of family a flaw.
Afraid she'd think he was the bane
and keep his love at bay again,
for his commitment still could draw
a single tear.
