Pennies on the Dollar
You look at me in absolute disgust
with tearless eyes I used to trust.
Plunge a stake through my heart, if you must,
perhaps that will satiate your blood lust.
We rolled well as a team for a while.
I was totally enraptured by your smile.
Your took my withering sense of style
and improved it by a country mile.
You got me used to living mighty high,
way beyond my means, I can’t deny.
I’d just write the checks with a sigh.
You were always smiling, now I know why.
Statements and bills started rolling in,
I opened a few and hit a tailspin.
The rest are unopened, I know it’s a sin
I haven’t the strength to be shocked again.
Danger of beauty paired with feminine wiles
can build a man these dangerous piles.
It’s not only your head and heart she beguiles,
it’s also your credit rating her appetites defiles.
Plunge a stake through my heart, if you must.
My good name and standing have all gone bust.
Somehow you find this all somehow just,
when I was spoiling you rotten you never fussed.
What I have left you could put in a sack
my days with you were a financial attack.
Bankruptcy court never gives you a bridge over the crack
and it takes seven years to get your good name back.
Be careful as you drive away in that Beamer I bought,
don’t give my situation one nagging little thought.
Perhaps I’m just being melodramatic and overwrought.
I was your fish left high and dry, watch me fiscally rot.
(Nope, it didn't really happen to me, just me riffing)
