Only Slightly Used
I prepped my heart to explore
the open market,
unwrapped, multicolored and
only slightly used.
Previously annoyed I've chosen
it’s time to forget
the notion that, in the past it
was rudely abused.
A hushed and lonely heart hurts
almost as much
as one enduring long stretches
of mindless guff.
Wondrous, necessary healing
comes from a touch,
given in measured doses, it’s
oft' times enough.
I set out to scrape off as many of
the attached scars
on the pitted and mottled cardiac
surface as I could.
It shan’t be for sale in the commotion
of clubs or bars,
that tomfoolery never brings about
There will be no price tag, no set
in stone amount,
the squeeze of negotiations contains
the best part.
Pluses and minuses are part of
the haggling count,
as a condition, they are noted
right from the start.
So, if you're in the market to taste
my sweet amour
and your stored up bullcrap quotient
is quite low,
talk to me in words that add only pluses
to your score
or you've no glimmer of hope of ever
getting past go.
Just because I’ll soon be stepping
back in to the pool,
doesn't mean I no longer harbor
fear of getting wet.
Step lightly in pursuit; don’t mistakenly
think me a fool,
my pent up love is the highly sought after
prize you may get.
