The Plan

My days are a fleeting
like ripples across a pond
Some do seem to be depleting
while others still yet go on and on!

To gather in all my yesterdays
like raking up a yard full of leaves
I dare not let any of them fade away
as tho if caught up in a swirling breeze!

Mementos, photos, various things
pressed flowers from prom corsages
Awards and diplomas, a few school rings
in the desert of regret, they'd become mirages!

So, I shall put all of these grand treasures
in a steel box, locked and sealed for posterity
least 'til a day I realize my memories begin to blur
and can only pray I shant forget where I hid the key!
