Following To Oblivion

Pleasure...hedonistic wild sensation,
is temporary and, like grass, will fade,
the passing phase of transitory elation,
carrot so attractive to persuade.
Dangled at the edge of mortal danger
to tempt you as you take the deepest breath.
Lead on, MacDuff, (bravado for the stranger),
the sugar-coated pill leads but to death.
Ass, sheep or human, foolishly we follow,
to hide (in vain), beneath a cloudless sky.
Market fluctuations, profits hollow,
or a new beginning, filled with ne'er say die.
The choice we make...to follow like dumb sheep,
precipice, be warned, is perilously steep.
