The Splendid Kind

Speak to me softly for life has been unkind
And my mind grows weary of the daily grind
With tender words whisper to my heart and soul
Tell me that you’d never really go

Lay me down in daydreams in fields of gold
My Love, as the day grows old
I shall never find another pleasure so divine
So speak to me with memories of the splendid kind

I close my eyes and you still seem so very near
I beg just one 'I Love You' in my aching ear
A wispy word to fall upon my starving skin
Just once more, I'll never ask again

Speak to me softly through this bitter night
You've gone and taken with you all your lovely light
I could never find another pleasure so divine
So speak to me with memories of the splendid kind

(To My Love Steve, I still grieve)
