The Eyes of Faith
The eyes see many things in many ways
the beauty of nature in its grandeur,
tulips in spring, roses in summer,
blushing leaves in the days of fall,
even snowflakes wonders in winter.

Diamonds dangle in a lady's ears
red lipstick painted on pouting lips,
as the plunging neckline teases the eyes
and a woman mimics the flitting butterfly
to mesmerize a young man's nascent desire.

Yet there are more than meet the eyes
like love that sees beyond the colors of flesh,
to trust the promise of words of a lover
needs different eyes to see things so great
from the heart and mind, the eyes of faith.

The eyes of faith sees not the bread
but the transformation of what is divine.
As the Mayflower's passage across the ocean
to pursue a dream the voyage was taken
even in a stark night with the eyes of faith.

Driven by a need or fueled by wanderlust
man leaves the comfort of his abode
to seek good fortune in another place,
though some find refuge in the arid foothills
for heaven's sake, all with the eyes of faith.
