About This Thing Called ....

I was playing a word game on POGO one night
when a gal by the name of Amber came online
We chit chatted throughout the game and found
we both wrote a little poetry from time to time

She'd told me of a place called The Starlite Café
where the writers of poetry had somewhere to meet,
post their writings, and enjoy the company of others
who shared the same passion. I thought 'HOW SWEET!'

Now this was back in 2009 when I visited the Café
I snuck in quietly, looked around, found it pretty neat
If I needed inspiration, all I'd have to do was compete
So I got my feet wet in the challenges back in the day

Through these years, I've made many precious friends
Together we have been through a lot of stormy weather
Since I've been here, eight have even gone up to heaven
Those were the saddest times and we'll forget them never

From time to time, some may have an axe to grind
It's usually over a misunderstanding of some kind
But, when it comes down to it, we all do seem to find
We don't mean to quarrel, it hurts our peace of mind

We learn from each other meter and rhyme, and....
all those different types and forms of poetry verse
and we all just keep on getting better and better
I guess we're all in it together for better or worse

There was a time when those who owned the Café
left us stranded, well that's how it had felt anyway
Out of love for us and poetry, a good man saved the day
Steven, our knight in shining armor, he bought the Café

So, with Brandy, Bonnie and Myrna, by his side
they worked hard on the problems, just to get a grip
We, the ever faithfuls, have hung in through thick and thin
while others grew impatient and seemingly jumped ship

And if you want to know a secret, sorta like child's play
some have made lame attempts to woo a few of us away
but, we know a good thing when we've got, we'll never stray
We will bask forever in the starlight right here at The Starlite Café

This is my home away from home! It's where I go everyday!
