No One is Buying
How often do you hear about a house of cards
that can't take even the slightest zephyr gust?
In our abode that danger comes from within
as the power of hurtful words bows out walls.
- epithets are flying -
The one-upsmanship has gotten so divisive lately
that kind and nurturing words have no place.
The curious passing by on the outside can't see any
of the broken windows and shattered reflections.
- kind words dying -
Love that once lived here has such jagged edges
that it rends the hearts that once shared in it.
I'm sorry is what hangs from the eaves like webs,
perhaps meant when released, never truly accepted.
- apologies denying -
The vows we took are no longer watertight
as leaks spew and flowing tears match their rush.
The air, fetid with disharmony, is hard to breathe.
The death of love chokes all with fumes of pain.
- once happy eyes crying -
We've tried time-outs and designated personal space
yet encroachment has beaten down those barriers.
I love you is a mere fading echo time now owns.
This home is now a house in emotional bankruptcy.
