Prince Edward Island 'Epekwitk '
Come, journey with me
To my place by the sea
As in my mind I visit again
The island of singing sand
a magical isle'resting on the waves'
where wild roses grow on the beach
and white sands sing as they touch your feet
pink lady slippers tread woodland floors
and bluejays perch in tall oaks, their piercing cries
in concert with waves crashing on shore
idyllic farms are on parade
beside the sea, the beautiful sea
where local fishermen ply their trade
a tiny niche with ambrosial
breezes kissing your face
as sunset falls in brilliant pace
at twilight skies turn granite grey
giving backdrop to fireflies
competing with stars on high
Prince Edward Island
as near to paradise
one can be

*'Epekwitk 'is the name given by the Mi'kmaq Nation in reference to
Prince Edward Island, Canada. This is often translated as 'Resting on the Waves'.
European settlers later changed the pronunciation of the name to 'Abegiweit'.
The beach sand is said to sing as you walk along the beach, and it does.
It is an eerie sound that has not ever been fully understood, or explained.
