Get Rid Of The Advertisements

What I Missed

There's so many roads that fear
kept me from taking
and so many potential friends
I did not embrace.

There was so much love I never
took time for making
as I barreled on through my life,
making undue haste.

Beauty would sparkle around me
but my eyes were blinded
by my pursuit of heaven only
knows what.

Tunnel vision is so limiting I'm
now often reminded
life's passage is colored gray with
eyes wide shut.

Looking back is justifiably painful
as I finally realize
all the empty space within
my tired soul.

If I could turn back the clock
I'd no longer fantasize
about justifying existence and
formalizing my role.

I'd stoop lower to smell sweet
flowers in full bloom
as I greet neighbors with
an honest smile.

Heck, I'd even take time to write
the perfect Pantoum
that critics could never hope
to pan or defile.

It's good that I recognize all
I have sadly missed
but, alas, there's nothing
concrete to be done.

I'll give thanks for every time
this fool has been kissed
in desirous moments after the
setting of the sun.
