LEMONS AND THE SEA

painting by Jeff Faust

it was a rough beginning
being banished from the garden
the lemon fragrance so tempting

but now our life is tart
soured by tortuous times
while the serpent stalks us still

the arc has served us well
with its oars we steered a hopeful course
across the flooded waters

the earth is still afloat and all is calm
our hope will guide us yet to follow
the path of a thousand cranes
