Way back then

Was way back then in my ill spent youth, When I was young and full of truth
I was an Air Policeman in USAF, One night in relief of evening shift
Everyone frozen, seemingly flipped, I said, time to let us take our trip
Was told that they would not leave, Not until someone would relieve
Big Dave was showing his strength, Someone will have to give him a hint
Dave was at the Airmens' club and drunk, Was not a small man , he was a hunk
My Sergeant asked me , you need help, No, I can handle it all by myself
Asked the Sergeant what he had done, Replied that he had threatened him some
Sat down, asked Dave, whatcha think, He said he wanted to finish his drink
OK, Dave but time to go when I get up, Then I put on my hat and he stood up
Took him to his barracks, gave him advice, To sleep it off, and to be real nice
Apologize to that Sergeant quickly, He could file charges and make it sticky
To end this tale, he did it and quickly
