Why Not Me

'pon yonder hillside
wafting lavender breeze
soothing the katydids?
why not me?

many years i've cried
turning tears into seas
of thee, myself, i bid
why not me?

labeled evil's bride
riddled with miseries
into doldrums i slid
why not me?

better if i'd died
and yet to life i cleave
soothing the katydids?
why not me?

why not me?
