Evening Whispers

A new moon rises, Earth’s sweet satellite,
And crickets sing a lullaby’s refrain;
The air is scented with approaching rain
As evening whispers to the coming night.
Birds rising to their nesting spots take flight,
Their silhouettes against the deep’ning sky,
Spread wonderment when they go gliding by
As evening whispers to the coming night.
Stars glimm’ring from the heavens so delight
The canopy of leaf lace overhead
Though lovers may leave promises unsaid
As evening whispers to the coming night.

A new moon rises, Earth’s sweet satellite,
As evening whispers to the coming night.
