Mercurial Memories

We sat together Ďneath the sweeping shade
Of broad magnolia branches, blossom splashed;
Bright fireflies in nocturnal escapade
Their sensual ballet danced unabashed.

Two hands in sweet affection gently held
While summerís breath caressed the eager leaves;
A sense of wistful optimism swelled
As starlight and moon shadows interweaved.

The air instilled with nectar, summerís scent,
Intoxicates the senses and the soul.
Mercurial, lifeís nature sings lament
For loving one another makes us whole.

Those memories clasped precious to my heart,
As what once was seems now to fall apart.
