We Love our Basenji

My kids and their dog...back when...

Dad told us when he bought this pet
the tallest tale he's told us yet.
He reckons there's a monkey, see,
dog-tailed, cannot climb a tree.
It barks where once it howled and yapped
(Dad laughed then and his sides he slapped).
Scientists crossed two creatures over,
a howling ape and a dog named Rover.
Now we've a curly-tailed old dog,
while in Africa (Dad read in a blog),
there's a barking monkey can't climb trees
which our pooch could likely scale with ease.
