Get Rid Of The Advertisements

Two Veterans

We sit here in this romantic corner,
just a lone candle for illumination.
Wine glasses in reach, barely touched,
we're held rapt by our conversation.

We are veterans of the dating scene.
Partners have come and they have gone.
The variety has been most interesting,
but no spark of love could they spawn.

The feeling with you is far different.
I want you to know I'll open my soul.
My prayers are that you feel the same,
for I believe that you make me whole.

I reach across the table to touch your hand
looking straight into your amazing eyes.
I'm done with the one-nighters and flings.
For real love my seasoned heart cries.

I see a tear roll gently from your eye,
joined by a smile and nod of your head.
For you the dating scene holds no allure,
you echo each sentiment I have said.

Over wine and candlelight a love story's born,
with no promises yet, but with enticing belief.
My little black book may be officially retired
as this love boat slips safely over the dating reef.
