'Heroes' For One

Never truly could I believe the thought
one simple word could ever tell a story
Then I went to watch a Veteran's parade
and saw them march proud, full of glory

How they'd left their homes to go to war
certainly missing beloved friends and family
Then the things they had to do to survive
would get the best of most of them and me

To protect their country, to keep it safe
and save lives of others, they would kill
For so many, that was a hard pill to swallow
most are messed up in the head today still

Glancing at the photos I'd taken that day
of each division as they'd passed me by
If I had to put a caption on each of them
with just one word to tell their story, I ...

could use Bravery, Patriotic, Camaraderie,
of course, for certain, I can't forget Heroes
Each tells a tale of it's own without details
as war stories told, I think, everyone knows
