When I Wished KKD

When I Wished

When I was little
I would sit counting stars
No matter where I was
They were never away far.

I believed wishes they would grant
Only if you wished with all your heart
Looking out my window there you are
As you have been from my very start

As a grown woman
I still am 'counting stars'
But mine has lost its twinkle
Have you moved away too far

Or is it I
Thru life I ceased to see
That you are there just waiting
For that next wish from me

I will admit thru the years
Hope has been a bit lost
Is it my lack of dreaming
That has been too great a cost

Do I guard my heart
A bit too much
The door Ive closed
I have a hunch

But it's so hard to open
That tightly closed door
My safe place where my heart
Is not scattered upon the floor

Life is but a chance
Of choices we make
With a heart that is open
Is it the chance I need to take.

ღ God asked me how long I planned on keeping you in my life.
I smiled and said...
How do I choose between always and forever...
But then I have found that's really not up to me... ღ
