This Is Me

Stressed is not the word
To describe just how I feel
Overwhelmed comes somewhat close
But it's a much more bigger deal
People want to micromanage
How I feel and think
Why can't people just accept
That this is not just some random thing
It's a long term issue
That can't be dealt
With a single plan or thought
I'll forever deal with my urges
No matter how hard this life is fought
But what I'm trying to hold onto
Is a simple thing called change
Yeah people can do it
And I am not afraid
I'm not afraid of changing
I welcome it at that
But people want to focus on nothing other
Than my messed up past
I am not a child
I am an adult
And all that has happened to me
Is not all of my fault
Yes I made my choices
That I live with every day
But people need to back off me now
And let me direct the play
This is in fact my life
Which I am turning around
Why that is so hard to comprehend
The answer I've still not found
But let them think what they want to
I'm not gonna tiptoe around it anymore
Because people need to hear me now
And see who I speak for
I speak for myself now
No matter who agrees
I'm trying to do it politely
But that's not working for me
I don't want to be rude
I just want to be me
Prove that I am different now
So everyone can see
If you want to judge me by my past
And not listen to my thoughts
Because you may not think I'm capable
Than that is ALL YOUR FAULT
So take me as you want to
See whatever comes to mind
Just know my main focus is all me now
And my past is left behind
It will always be apart of me
And honestly I'm grateful for that
Because it has built who I am now
And I wouldn't trade that back
Just understand I run my life
The way I feel fit
And if you disagree
I'm sorry this is it
This is who I am
I have made the change
No one will take it away again
And maybe you'll eventually too turn the page.
