Love's Defection

Memories grip my heart tightly,
lost in yesterday I wander,
all dishevelled, most unsightly.
Precious life away I squander.

Lost in yesterday I wander,
gone all purpose, void emotion.
Life o'ercomes with profound ponder,
permitting no fresh-formed notion.

All dishevelled, most unsightly,
days obsessed with love's defection.
Nothing can I think of lightly,
little hurts like lost affection.

Precious life away I squander,
though around me friends' hearts cherish.
Conscious thought AWOL absconder,
shake me, wake me, lest I perish.
