Autumnal Praise

That sap which flowed with Springtime's warmer days
now slows, preparing green things for to sleep.
In chilly breeze weathervane gently sways,
bright colours amongst tree tops gaily creep.

While waning sun adapts it yearly course,
that sap which flowed with Springtime's warmer days
stalls 'neath grey bark deprived of nature's sauce,
settles a while exactly where it stays.

Our fallow field we newly stripped of maize,
all gold and brown amongst which sparrows flit.
That sap which flowed with Springtime's warmer days
gives busy earth the chance to rest a bit.

How wonderful God's plan for Earth's repose,
leaves rustle and birds sing a song of praise,
tempting, perhaps to think it comatose,
that sap which flowed with Springtime's warmer days.
