Comes Dawning

Magpie knows well the dawn before it breaks,
trilling, warbling until each awakes.
'Well done,' he sings, 'now stretch to greet this day;
but I am busy so I must away.'

Come all ye lads and lassies, ducks and drakes,
Magpie knows well the dawn before it breaks.
Rub well your eyes of sandman's dust and dreams,
ensure that all you touch is what it seems.

These daylight hours, take each one as a gift.
Find one who's down and help their spirits lift.
Magpie knows well the dawn before it breaks,
and Rover sniffs before his tail he shakes.

Some take their time, the new day for to greet.
Some snuggle in for dreaming was so sweet,
the ag-ed one evaluates her aches,
Magpie knows well the dawn before it breaks.
