Aubade for Love

Comes now the dawn when I must bid farewell.
The battle calls, my love, I thus respond.
It may well be you'll hear of how I fell,
yet know that I of thee was more than fond.

Watching you sleep, your smumb'ring smile so sweet,
comes now the dawn when I must bid farewell.
Should heaven's gates be where we next shall meet,
somehow my heart , I'll find a way to tell.

In all you do, in all your days excel,
be strong, Sweetheart, live life as best you may.
Comes now the dawn when I must bid farewell,
our nuptial vows made only yesterday.

They call me now, our ship is set to sail.
I cannot wake thee...tears within me well.
Determined that my courage shall not fail,
comes now the dawn when I must bid farewell.
