My Father's Eyes

From the very instant

I was brought into this world

The love of my sweet daddy

Was undaunted and unfurled

He held me ever so gently

I felt his strength and charm

As my protector, I was his princess

To me there would come no harm

Years have flown and now I'm grown

Oh, the wonderful warm hugs he gave...

They are the one thing I've truly missed

And something I still desperately crave!

He has long since gone to be with God

But his tenderness dwells inside of me

I only pray I can become just half

Of the person he came to be

So when I hold my grandkids at night

And sing to them made-up lullabies

I tell them of the deep affection I felt

And the love in my daddy's eyes
