MY MOST PRECIOUS POSSESION

My Darling Tony
Everyday your letter came and every day I replied
Two young people so in love
Divided by the Oceanís tide
You in uniform looking grand
Stationed in a foreign place
How I longed to hold your hand
Time soon passed and you came home
The letters stopped
We were free to roam
I placed those letters in a box
To discard them I could not
But as years passed all thoughts of them were lost
We married and had a happy life
We laughed together, we cried together
Shared fifty-three years as Husband and Wife
We always hoped it would never end
And that day God called you Home
I knew my broken heart would never mend
As I sat feeling sad I thought about the love we had
I remembered back to the letters of long ago
Those words of love always made me glad
I searched and searched then the box I found
Faded envelopes filled with love
As I read I felt you close
Once more your arms did me surround
Now when Iím lonely and long for you
I take out those letters to read again
My most precious possession is not silver or gold
But those wonderful letters from you

R.I.P. until we meet again
Your loving Wife Pat
