Tears Once Heard

TEARS ONCE HEARD

I listened to the softest splash upon the roof of tin
And smiled because I so loved the sound of rain,
But then I paused as I listened again
For I heard the drops as though in pain.
Could it be that the splash I did hear
Was not rain after all?
Could it have been the sound of tears
That from the heavens had to fall?
Have the clouds been their home until
It was time for their release?
Is the time now that they must spill
And find that needed peace?,
I felt my own tears begin to flow
As I breached the realm of time.
It was then that I came to know
That the tears I heard were mine.
