Get Rid Of The Advertisements

About Ma Kettle

You'd never have guessed her origins
as pious and genteel,
Marjorie Main as Ma Kettle,
funny, loud and real.

Indeed, as Mary Tomlinson,
raised as a 'pastor's kid',
adopted the stage name which would stick
and, on the silver screen hid.

The beloved Ma Kettle, with Percy as Pa,
her character larger than life,
how could she manage remaining
as that laid-back, lazy man's wife.

Ma never seemed to stress a lot,
except perhaps with Pa.
When she yelled out 'Come and get it',
offspring came from near and far.

Unless you remember the fifties
when comedy was all the rage,
you're probably shaking your head right now
thinking...'She's showing her age'.
